There are pizza with wieners, asparagus, pineapple and many other varieties of pizzas in the world. But the flavour of the real Naples pizza is unimaginable without oregano, basil and a pinch of garlic – in other words, without Mediterranean herbs. A full, original, warm and sunny flavour. Typical southern spices, strongly aromatic and full-flavoured, accompanied by a pinch of anise, which also originates from the Mediterranean. With delicious garlic and onions and the addition of pepper, whose intense aroma goes perfectly with mozzarella and olive oil.

Advice for use

– Mixed spices for pizza are ideal for hot and cold dishes.
– For seasoning sauces, soups and stews (including ragù bolognese), it is recommended to add it to the dish in the last 10 minutes of cooking. Do not cook it burn, let it boil slowly so it can release its flavour in the best way.
– For a quick snack: toast baguette or ciabatta slices, sprinkle them with olive oil, season with a little fleur de sel and mixed spices for pizza.
– The mixture is very aromatic and has a delicate aroma that is not dominating. It can therefore be used abundantly. Measure: teaspoon, even tablespoon.

Origin and history

Pizza does not originate from Naples, but from North Africa. Like pasta. The dough for pizza and pasta was originally a thin bread mixture of flour, oil and water. The recipe comes from the nomadic peoples who came from Central Asia and across the Middle East in the early modern times and settled permanently in northern Africa. Thanks to the maritime trade between Africa and Italy, this recipe was brought to Europe, more precisely to southern Italy, in the early 11th century.
A refined note
